The Sunday Slice 1.6
The “Savor Summer” Edition

Bon Jour, Charles here….
As most weekly newsletters begin, I will make note of the date or the weather:
My, My!, how the month has flown! Hope you are enjoying the beautiful July weather as you enjoy this week’s Sunday Slice.
WINE TASTING AUGUST 22nd
As mentioned in my last missive, I am planning CEF’s second wine tasting to crowd source our wine list for September - November. There are still spots available, but if you are interested, I wouldn’t wait too long. (Capacity 14, remember?) Here are the details as stated last week:
For $45.00 per person, you will enjoy
- 4 white and 4 red wines selected by our friends at Vino Veritas
- the debut of two new snacks
- the company of new friends
- the bragging rights on the excellent wine list for the next few months
- your photo prominently displayed at CEF for the duration of the list

1. All reservations need to be made in person at CEF. Sounds like a great excuse to stop in for a lovely beverage and snack!
2. Please pay for the evening when you make your reservations. Thank you!
3. We will start at 7:00 on Thursday, August 22nd. We will be closed to the public that day and open our doors to you at 6:45 to get settled in before we begin.
L'anticipation!
1840's Dad Beer On Tap
We have one new beer to share with you this week, and your dad would approve. 1840’s Brewery has sent over their Kolsch Dad Beer, a refreshing German beer that comes in at a warm-weather-friendly 4.8% ABV. We pour it in honor of our German friends celebrating at the lakefront this weekend, and offer it to you at the bargain price of $5.00 - Sunday 7/28 only, Noon - 5:00. After that, it will be available for $6.00 until it runs out. Perhaps some bonding over beer with dad this week?

Other tap selections:
Broken Bat Brewery Beach Ball Pineapple Milkshake IPA 7.2% ABV
Gathering Place Brewery The Fur Trader Rye Farmhouse Ale 7.3% ABV
Sahale Ale House Sky Breaker Hazy IPA 6.4% ABV
Star Gazing
Thursday evening, CEF was the meeting place for the 55th Street Sister Squad in our upper outdoor lounge. I am often numerically challenged, but am quite sure at least 14 lady-neighbors walked down Vliet Street to enjoy a lovely beverage and snack. Merci, madames, but next time we will bus the tables. It’s your night off!

Joining the Sister Squad was the Brennan Brigade. The family was gathering to celebrate brother Joel’s accomplished career as CEO of Discovery World at the 2019 Discovery World Ignite the Spark Gala. Along with Joel, Maggie, Pat and Buke were representing the clan along with outlaws and offspring. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend together!
Olde Hillcrest enjoys music and passion - they're always in fashion at CEF.
The Olde Hillcrest Neighborhood had an unofficial meeting at CEF Friday night that included some excellent music choices - including the wedding songs of each couple in the place to close out the evening. Ah, Amour!

Beau and Lauren stopped in Saturday night after a family gathering for a nightcap and the opportunity to show off Beau's 4 Unbutton Reveal. Desperate to be included in Star Gazing, Beau pointed out that men with no undone buttons on their shirt, or one, let's say, just don't have what it takes. Beau sported his unbuttoned look with pride. He explained he was moved to take this daring fashion move on a dare from his lovely wife, Lauren. I am quite sure regretted every word of the suggestion. Vive le'freedom!
And You, of course, if you stopped in last week.
We’re Nuts For Our Neighbors
When I found out the beloved home of my birth was championing nuts, I couldn’t help but follow suit. To celebrate, I have decided to invite all of our neighbors in for a nut or two. BUT, we all know I am a bit space challenged. Therefore, NUTS FOR OUR NEIGHBORS Monday will take place for the next 15 weeks. If you come into CEF wearing your neighborhood swag/T-Shirt, or have proof of membership to your neighborhood organization, I would like to treat your party to your choice of Moroccan Cashews/Mixed Nuts or Marcona Rosemary Almonds. (while supplies last) Sensationnel!
