The "Turkey and the Ivy" Edition

Bonjour, Charles here -

Finally an American tradition this Frenchman can get behind 100% percent! Yesterday was all about food! No gifts, no required wardrobe color scheme, no nonsense! All food, glorious food! For this I’m truly thankful, but understand this acknowledgement of plenty lasts only until dessert at which time you all go scampering for electronics and the like. So before you begin reading the operating instructions - as if anyone really does - read this week’s edition of The Slice.

We French love our basic black. So simple, so dramatic, so stain hiding. Join us for your basic, simple wine flights after you hit the stores on Friday. Four wines - 3 ounce pours - $20.00. What a great way to taste some of our new additions to the wine list as you discuss your shopping conquests. Speaking of shopping…

The shopping doesn’t have to stop when you get to our tiny little bistro.

Join us for an evening of a 4-course tasting & drink pairing designed to showcase small-batch coarse ground mustard from the Mustard Queens. Love at first bite for everyone involved!

And in review…

Merci, merci to all of our guests at the quarterly crowd sourced wine tasting to determine the new wines on our ever- growing and changing wine list. A special thanks to Bill Gardner of L’eft Bank Wines - and Washington Heights neighbor - for his knowledgeable, personable presentation of the wines.

And the winners are…

Banyan Gewurztraminer 2018 A nice balance between not too dry and not too sweet. Fragrance isn't fruity but more earthy. Sandy Barnett said she enjoyed this exactly 3.5 worth - on a scale of 1 - 3. $7.00/$29.00

Calvet Rose Cremant de Bordeaux 2016 - Mary Mann said this is a lovely, fresh dry with a nice hint of sweetness. Mary Mann also knew our wine distributor from other wine events. She is a credible source. $10.00/$42.00

2018 Dupeuble Beaujolais low levels of tannin and trademark aromas of juicy red fruit and spice. This is what good Beaujolais is all about. Carrie Zuithoff gave it a 4.5. She’s a math teacher, so that is high praise! $10.00/$42.00

Grand Retour CdR Villages Rouge "Plan de Dieu" 2015 65% Grenache, 25% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre RHone Valley, France. Thad gave it a +. We agree! $8.00/$34.00

Lustau - NV East India Solera- Sherry Brown sugar and caramel. Very long finish with hints of Turkish coffee. Peggy Dooley says it’s sort of Christmas at Downton Abbey in a glass. $6

A special Tuesday event at CEF was holiday-perfect as Nicki Schlederer & Anna Bjerk the two sisters behind 2 Sisters Stone Creations held a very special showcase of their beautiful, hand-crafted jewelry. We were so glad to host the event and see so many of you drop in and purchase. If for some reason you had something else to do that night, get your priorities in line and know that all is not lost. You can purchase 2 Sisters jewelry at SWOON just east of us on West Vliet Street. Or feel free to visit their facebook to contact them directly. Thanks, ladies, and happy holidays!

NEIGHBORHOOD DRAFT opened in the old Indigo/Meritage/Maison space on November 15th in time for our Holiday Happenings event on West Vliet Street. Owners Brian and Michelle Felten graciously opened their doors to the neighborhood with samples from their enthusiastically reviewed menu on Thursday night, and were met with enthusiastic crowds the following evening. Wishing you years of success in our happy, supportive neighborhood!
