The Sunday Slice

The Back to School Edition

How trite.

Bonjour, Charles here...

I think we can all agree that the pursuit of knowledge is more valuable than its possession. (Einstein) And of course who wouldn't go along with the notion that real knowledge is to know the extent of one's ignorance. (Confucius) So pick out your first day of school outfit and pack your lunch - time to pursue your ignorance. But first, the pursuit of all things Fromage in this week’s Slice.

Rhonda and Astra took their reponsibility very seriously. You can thank them later.

Vicimus venimus bibimus!! We came, we drank, we conquered!

10 lucky wine lovers arrived at Fromage last Thursday, and as promised

- tasted 4 white and 4 red wines selected by our friends at Vino Veritas

- enjoyed an additional surprise tasting of two roses

- sampled on the debut of two new snacks - well, actually, I lost count.

- the company of new friends

- the bragging rights on the excellent wine list for the next few months

- your photo prominently displayed at CEF for the duration of the list - OOPS! This may not happen unless I can learn how to photoshop. Rookie error!

Ann and Gayle yuck it up over a lovely glass of wine.

And now, the new wines we will begin serving on Sept. 6th

Tintero Moscato D’Asti, 2018 “Sori Gramella”

Lulumi Pinot Noir, 2017

Chateau Massiac Minervois Rouge, 2018 “Les Sentinelles”

Betsy doesn't mess around at wine tastings!

Thanks to our crowd for a lovely evening and your expertise! If you are interested in the next wine tasting, stay tuned for a late November date.

Star Gazing at CEF

The FAST Group (Former Atwater School Teachers) had a lovely time last Wednesday afternoon chatting, sipping and noshing. Wednesday afternoon, you say? Aren’t you closed? You are correct - unless you have a private gathering you would like to host. Be sure to contact us for details. (Gazing and plugging all in one!)

The star crowd for the wine tasting Thursday included Marquette High School administrator and chocolatier Megan Doering, Brookfield East teachers and wine buddies Molly Mathia and Lindsey Skatrud, Rhonda VanPembrook (aka RVP) who needs two hyperlinks to describe her commitment to and support of local farmers , local foodie and personal chef Katrina Kozar, Milwaukee mosaic artist and substitute wine taster Ann Wyderen, clinical nurse specialist in the Children’s Hospital NICU Nurse Ann Grippe - who fancies herself the Critic’s Choice, librarian and wine-curious Gayle Kerznar, Wauwatosa singer and tasting pro Betsy Cannon DuCanto, and the wine-loving and date whisperer Astra Valters.

A memory in the making!

Saturday marked the 25th anniversary of our West Vliet Street neighbors, Rainbow Booksellers. Owners Marye Beth Dugan and Joe Croze blew up balloons, served up a lovely cake, and offered the same outstanding service they have been known for for the past ¼ century. Lauriers to you both, and hope you enjoyed your post-store celebration with the entire staff at CEF along with Amy and Doug Sedlar, Theresa, Mike and Matthew Mortell, and long-time customer and friend Andrea Loss to name a few.

The neighborhood is a-buzz about the potential for a new venue on West Vliet Street, so you can imagine how delighted we were to host the owner of Neighborhood Draft Brian Felten and his lovely wife Megan. They dropped in Saturday night and chatted about this and that - but mostly restaurants. There is the passion! Best of luck to you on your new adventure!

And YOU of course, if you joined us last week and Charles E. Fromage

Cribbage This Thursday

I dare you!

Thursday is Cribbage Thursday at Charles E. Fromage and will remain so until someone shows up to play cribbage. I jest! We have had a few cribbage lovers, but I know there are more of you. Help Wanted

This is serious. 1/3 of our staff - gone!

A fond bon voyage to Dominic Schiro as he embarks on a new academic adventure at the University of Minnesota. We will miss you at Fromage!

Due to this significant loss of labor, we are looking for someone to join our very tiny bistro staff. The person must have a current Wisconsin bar tender’s license, a solid understanding of the art of conversation, and a willingness to work with us to come up with a good arrangement for all. Drop in and we can talk.

Hours available - Mon 4-11ish

Thurs. - 4 - 11ish
